Carrier Aggregation In Mobile Devices
2/10/2016
Carrier aggregation (CA) enables mobile network operators worldwide to provide faster data, and allows mobile devices to communicate on multiple LTE bands simultaneously. This, however, creates the challenge of avoiding interference between the bands while keeping up good reception and battery life. Multiplexers are an excellent solution for CA combinations that use closely spaced bands since they provide isolation between and within bands, while allowing them to connect to the antenna at the same time. This white paper discusses the challenges of carrier aggregation, and the important benefits of using multiplexer solutions to solve them.

Connectivity Q&A: Wi-Fi Pushes The Possibilities For Our New Virtual World
12/10/2020
The COVID-19 pandemic is a worldwide phenomenon that has affected our lives in a multitude of ways. Most notably are the periodic stay-at-home orders around the world that have shifted the way we regularly connect. According to research firm TeleGeography, in 2020, average international internet traffic increased 48%, while peak traffic rose 47%. Whether these numbers will return to pre-COVID values, or if this is the new normal, will remain to be seen. Tony Testa explores this new virtual landscape and offers some Wi-Fi specific insight into how manufacturers like Qorvo will develop solutions to help everyone adapt.

Through The 5G Antenna Design Maze With Antenna-Plexers
11/19/2020
Antenna-plexers provide a solution for how to accommodate the dramatic increase in RF complexity, even as the space allocated to antennas continues to shrink. They enable manufacturers to accommodate new 5G bands, 4x4 MIMO, and other new requirements with fewer antennas, and with no impact on existing form factors or features. By using antenna-plexers, manufacturers can deliver the full benefits of 5G without impacting their ability to add innovative features that attract consumers.

Connectivity Q&A: The Mesh Network And The Advancement Of IoT Devices
11/18/2020
Wireless connectivity has become one with the Internet of Things (IoT). The International Data Corporation (IDC) estimates there will be 41.6 billion connected IoT devices, or “things,” generating 79.4 zettabytes of data in 2025. Mesh networking will be a key mechanism to enabling this large amount of data for IoT devices in homes, cities, and businesses. Tony Testa provides some insight into how this all meshes in our world and how Qorvo plays an active part.

Quick Guide To High Voltage Impedance Tuning
11/17/2020
Antenna designers face a multitude of challenges with mobile handsets: the ever-increasing band coverage requirements, challenging industry design constraints, and the continually shrinking amount of real estate left to fit antennas. By using aperture and impedance tuners, designers can tackle these issues. However, not just any aperture or impedance tuner can be used. Many applications today require a more robust, reliable tuning product to fully meet design needs.

Mobile 5G Device Antenna Tuning Demystified
10/13/2020
5G is bringing a significant increase in new bands that mobile antennas must support. More than ever before, there’s a need for handset designers to use more aperture tuners on a single antenna due to the complexity of the new phone designs. While each addition of an aperture tuner helps optimize the overall antenna performance for each band, it sometimes comes at the cost of antenna efficiency. Without the proper balance of antenna efficiency and performance of each band on an antenna, the overall device performance and range will suffer.
