WinStar Delivers Broadband Wireless Service to Large Office Complexes

New York-based WinStar Communications Inc. has signed a non-exclusive mater agreement with Equity Office (New York). Under the pact, WinStar will install its Wireless Fiber Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) system in more than 90 targeted office buildings. In addition, WinStar will offer its broadband, voice, data, and Internet services to Equity Office customers in selected buildings throughout key WinStar markets across the US.

WinStar is connecting its fixed wireless broadband network to Equity Office buildings in a range of key US markets including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Seattle. Equity Office's nationwide portfolio is comprised of 287 office buildings with more than 76 million square feet of space in 24 states and the District of Columbia.

WinStar works with commercial building owners and managers to install unobtrusive dish antennae—about the size of a basketball—on building rooftops, enabling WinStar to provide tenants with a range of telecommunications services through its national broadband network. Buildings can be quickly connected to WinStar's fixed wireless network, giving tenants swift access to local and long distance phone service, Internet access, data applications, and other advanced telecommunications and information services.

To date, WinStar has obtained 12 of its hub sites from within the Equity Office portfolio. Six of these hubs have already been built out and connected to WinStar's broadband network and the others are in progress.
