Wind River Ports Tornado to TriCore Architecture

During the Embedded Systems Conference, Wind River Systems reached an agreement with Siemens Microelectronics. Under the pact, Wind River will port its Tornado development environment to Siemens' TriCore 32-b RISC-based architecture.

The TriCore RISC architecture implements a unified instruction set containing commands for control of digital signal processor (DSP) tasks that are executable by a single processing engine. This approach eliminates the bottlenecks that are typical in architectures with separate DSP and control logic cores interconnected on a single die.

The Tornado development environment is designed for UNIX, Windows 95, and Windows NT host platforms. Tornado includes a set of development tools as well as VxWorks, a scalable real-time operating system (RTOS). This development environment also supports third-party and customer-developed tools.
