Tropian Launches Operations with RF Technology
System-level RF and digital signal processing product manufacturer Tropian Inc. launched operations with a new technology that could lead to several advances for the wireless communications market, including doubling the talk time and battery life of dual band EGSM/DCS, phones, and eliminating 80% of the heat generated in micro-cellular and pico-cellular base station power amplifiers for the EGSM, DCS, and PCS frequency bands.
The company says its technology could also improve the spectral purity of GSM signals, enabling improvements in base station call handling capacity, minimizing phone size, weight, and manufacturing cost, and simplify the manufacturing process, enabling the mass consumerization of wireless phones.
Tropian's core technologies enable handset manufacturers to increase talk time without trading off size and weight of the wireless handset. The company is currently working with a select group of GSM handset and base station market leaders to bring its initial product line to market in the fourth quarter of 1999.
