STPCS Becomes 17th GSM Alliance Member
Chicago-based STPCS Joint Venture, which will market personal communications services (PCS) throughout its D and F block licenses in south Texas as SOL Communications, has joined the North American GSM Alliance LLC.
A joint venture between AmeriCall International and Western PCS Corp., SOL Communications will cover a combined population of about two million people in Victoria, Corpus Christi, Brownsville-Harlingen, McAllen, Laredo, and Eagle Pass-Del Rio, TX.
The North American GSM Alliance is a group of 17 North American digital wireless personal communication services companies. Alliance members include Aerial Communications Inc. (Chicago), Airadigm Communications Inc. (Little Chute, WI), BellSouth Mobility DCS (Atlanta), Conestoga Wireless Co. (Boyertown, PA), Cook Inlet PCS (Washington, DC), Digiph PCS (Mobile AL), Iowa Wireless Services (Des Moines, IA), Microcell Telecommunications Inc. (Montreal), NPI Wireless (Traverse City, MI), Omnipoint Communications (Cedar Knolls, NJ), Pacific Bell Wireless (Atwater, CA), Powertel Inc. (West Point, GA), STPCS Joint Venture (Chicago), TWS Inc. (Atlanta), Western Total Communications, Western Wireless Corp. (Issaquah, WA), and Wireless 2000 PCS. The Alliance works in cooperation with Siemens (New York), Motorola (Schaumburg, IL), Nortel Networks (Santa Clara, CA), Nokia (Espoo, Finland), and Ericsson (Stockholm, Sweden).
