Sierra Technologies Forms New Wireless Venture

With interest in wireless Internet access at an all time high, Sierra Technologies has formed Clearwire Technologies Inc. to provide a broadband last mile Internet connectivity solution.

With technology developed and sponsored by Sierra over the last three years, Clearwire will bring Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), and Network Service Providers (NSPs) the ability to compete in the broadband local loop market. Now privately held and funded by Sierra shareholders and led by a team of former Sierra executives and engineers, Clearwire will officially launch its broadband wireless local IP access solution this Spring.

In a related story, Clearwire's flagship wireless IP local access product has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for sale in the US. Industry Canada has also approved the product for sale in Canada.
