Siemens Integrates WAP Solutions in GSM Infrastructure

N/A Planet has reached an agreement with <%=company%>. Under the pact, Siemens will integrate Unwired Planet's Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-compatible software platform into its D900/D1800 GSM infrastructure systems.

To provide WAP functionality, Siemens will employ Unwired Planet's UP.Link server suite in its infrastructure products. This server suite connects handheld markup language (HDML)-enabled devices on wireless networks to applications and content hosted by Web servers on the Internet (or private intranet IP networks).

The UP.Link gateway supports protocol translation, ensuring that the same HDML applications work on all networks supported by the handheld device transport protocol (HDTP) and on all devices running UP.Browser. The gateway also provides operators (usually wireless data/voice service providers, or carriers) with complete subscriber provisioning and system/network management functions.

The new agreement is Siemens second WAP contract with Unwired Planet. In February, Siemens announced that it would work with Unwired Planet on implementing WAP functionality in its mobile radio terminals. To accomplish this task, Siemens agreed to implement Unwired Planet's WAP-compatible microbrowser, UP.Browser, in its GSM subscriber units.
