Samsung Electronics Joins Global Consortium To Secure And Commercialize 6G Technology
Samsung Electronics is leading the future of 6G technology together with global big tech companies.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 23rd that it will participate in the Verizon 6G Innovation Forum, a global consortium to define the future of 6G wireless communications and accelerate the development of related technologies.
This consortium is led by American telecommunications company Verizon, and includes key companies in the IT and communications technology fields, including Samsung Electronics, Meta, Ericsson, Nokia, and Qualcomm.
Participating companies will collaborate to build and commercialize the 6G ecosystem, including designing new use cases, devices, and network technologies.
To this end, we plan to discover new spectrum bands and conduct bandwidth tests strengthen cooperation with global standards organizations such as 3GPP develop prototypes and conduct field tests through the establishment of a 6G research institute.
In particular, Samsung Electronics plans to actively conduct research for the 6G era, including discovering new user experiences and developing related communication technologies by utilizing AI-powered wireless communication technologies.
“Samsung Electronics will work closely with global big tech companies to verify AI and communication network technologies that will lead the future of wireless, and bring forward the 6G era that provides innovative user experiences,” said Vice President Jin-Gook Jeong, head of the Next Generation Communications Research Center at Samsung Research.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics and Verizon proactively introduced virtualized base stations in 2020 and successfully launched commercial services. Through this, they are providing stable network services and collaborating on the development of AI-based next-generation base stations and the transition to 6G.
Additionally, Samsung Electronics is operating the Next-Generation Communications Research Center under Samsung Research to strengthen research on 6G communication technology and technological cooperation with mobile carriers.
