RF Micro Devices Opens Design Center in CA, Expands Greensboro Facilities

Radio frequency integrated circuits (RFIC) provider RF Micro Devices Inc. (Greensboro, NC) is opening a design center in Scotts Valley, CA today. Staffing the design center will be a team of senior level RF analog, mixed-signal and digital baseband engineers, layout personnel, as well as applications support and marketing personnel. This group, working with designers in NC and using a complete suite of Cadence design tools, will expand the company's ability to develop highly integrated silicon system solutions and other RF components for a variety of wireless applications.

The company also announced two facility expansions in Greensboro. First, a 34,000-sq. ft. expansion to its existing headquarters facility was recently completed and occupied. Most of the new space is for expansion of operations, including a new highly automated test floor that more than triples the company's test capacity. In addition, the company broke ground on a new 100,000-sq. ft. facility on its 30-acre campus adjacent to its current headquarters and GaAs HBT fab. This will serve as the new headquarters building as well as provide significant expansion for the design engineering and marketing groups.
