Powertel Vice President Elected GSM North America Chairman
GSM North America (GSMNA; Washington, DC), the North American Interest Group of the GSM Association, has named Powertel's (West Point, GA) vice president of business development, James Murrell, III, chairman of the group. Murrell succeeds Cook Inlet PCS (Tulsa, OK) president Jim Healy, who was recently elected deputy chairman of the GSM Association.
GSMNA is the US and Canadian branch of the international Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) wireless operators' trade organization. GSMNA is responsible for the development of public standards recommendations and specifications for the North American GSM market. The group also manages handset type certification for North American wireless operators, monitors numbering and regulatory issues, manages coordination of fraud activities, writes interoperability test plans, and writes requirement specifications for GSM roaming services for North America.
