Powerful New ComStruct(tm) VoIP Software Speeds Time-To-Market
Blue Wave Systems Inc. today launched FACT(tm)-MG, a new ComStruct(tm) building block for packet voice processing applications that are at the heart of the converged network - such as softswitch VoIP media gateways and IP-enabled enhanced services platforms. This is the first time that the company has developed a version of its FACT integrated development and management software for Texas Instruments' C5x DSP platform. FACT-MG provides a layer of abstraction between the user's packet voice application and the underlying technology - including world-leading VoIP software and the CompactPCI® ComStruct CPCI/C5421 high-density packet processing platform - which unlocks time for Blue Wave's customers to innovate their application.
Built around Telogy Software(tm) products for Voice and Fax over IP, FACT-MG enables developers to rapidly develop IP telephony and media gateway applications in line with the 'decomposed' converged network architecture model established by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU). It provides simplified and dynamic control, allocation and management of multiple resources and multiple resource boards; and application development interfaces that allow termination of and conversion between packet and non-packet media streams.
"Since time-to-market is such a critical factor in the commercial success of a telecom product, it is crucial that developers minimize any factors that threaten a project from delivering on time and within budget," said Nigel Forrester, product manager at Blue Wave Systems. "FACT-MG enables system developers to start working on their applications now - based on the 120-channel ComStruct CPCI/C5421 - and seamlessly migrate to 672 channels and even higher densities as we deliver on our packet voice hardware roadmap.
"We have identified that packet processing is best performed on the C5x DSP platform and, for the first time, applied the ethos of FACT to develop a software solution around the award-winning Telogy Software products to speed the development of converged network infrastructure equipment. OEMs not only benefit from a significant development advantage and reduced risk but can also gain from our very aggressive pricing strategy," he continued.
FACT-MG will initially be available for HA Linux based host platforms, closely followed by Solaris 8 to meet the needs of carrier-class equipment suppliers.
