OrCAD Releases Enhanced EDA Tools

OrCAD has updated its entire line of electronic design automation (EDA) tools. These upgraded tools, called Release 9 products, feature selected OrCAD and MicroSim products, integrated through the new OrCAD interchange architecture.

The OrCAD interchange architecture features OrCAD Capture as the single interface and database for project management and design entry. The OrCAD Capture user interface connects engineers to a choice of products for component information management; mixed schematic/VHDL field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and complex programmable logic device (CPLD) design, simulation, and synthesis; analog/mixed-signal design; and PCB layout.

With OrCAD Release 9 products, every engineer on a product team can now develop their design or sub-components using a consistent user interface with compatible data format. As a result, designs can be divided in the early stages and then merged later for system integration, test, and implementation.

Release 9 includes new versions of all OrCAD products, including OrCAD Capture, OrCAD CIS, OrCAD PSpice, OrCAD PSpice A/D, OrCAD Express, OrCAD Layout Plus, OrCAD Layout, and the OrCAD Layout Engineer's Edition. The OrCAD Layout Plus, OrCAD Layout, and OrCAD Layout Engineer's Edition are now available. The other Release 9 products are currently in beta test and are expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 1998.
