Orbcomm to Bring Global Satellite Communications Services to India

Dulles, VA-based Orbcomm Global has signed a service license agreement with Orbcomm Kirloskar Private Ltd. to bring Orbcomm satellite services to India and regions of Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Maldives. Equity holders in Kirloskar include Kirloskar Computer Services Ltd. (West Bangalore, India) and Belgium-based Cardian NV (Kuurne, Belgium).

Orbcomm Kirloskar will rely on a pair of India-based gateway Earth stations—the infrastructure that route messages to and from ORBCOMM satellites and their terrestrial destinations. After completing the terrestrial infrastructure and securing regulatory approval from the Indian government, Orbcomm Kirloskar expects to immediately target the region's utility, heavy equipment, rail cargo, transportation, and shipping industries.
