Nokia Employs Tegic Text Input Technology in Phones

Espoo, Finland-based Nokia has started employing Tegic Communications' T9 text input technology in its GSM phones. According to Nokia, will ease the use of short messaging services (SMS) in its wireless products.

Tegic's T9 technology allows cellular phone users to compose messages, enter information into their handsets, and take advantage of a variety of communications services using a text input approach. Individuals enter characters or letters using a series of strokes. T9 analyzes these strokes using a linguistic database that matches the users' strokes and stroke orders. T9 then displays the characters or letters on the mobile phone's screen.

T9 technology is available in Chinese, Spanish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish versions.

Nokia has installed this technology in its 7110 and 3210 handsets. These GSM products are designed for dual band operation in the 900 MHz and 1.8 GHz range.
