NEC Unified Solutions Announces Mobile Classroom Solution For Higher-Educational Institutions

Orlando, FL -- NEC Unified Solutions (NEC) announced the development of its mobile wireless LAN solution for the higher-education vertical market, NEC's Mobile Classroom. Designed to enable seamless access to the campus network from any remote location, NEC's Mobile Classroom provides field researchers and their students with the ability to collect, analyze and share information with their peers even when they are not in the traditional classroom setting.

NEC's Mobile Classroom is a high-bandwidth data solution that employs wireless and satellite technologies to provide access to information housed on a higher-educational institution's network. Coupled with a satellite uplink, Mobile Classroom utilizes a wireless LAN switch and controller, along with a series of access points to provide field researchers with a solution that is fully integrated with their existing campus network. Each access point can accommodate multiple wireless users in an area up to 5,000 square feet, giving them the versatility to perform their work within a large site. To reach remote locations, NEC's Mobile Classroom can be mounted on a truck or sports utility vehicle and requires a battery or generator to power.

According to Greg Stahl, manager of Telecommunications Information Technology at St. Lawrence University in NY, "We have a research station off campus that we have not been able to connect to the campus network. This building is situated across a small river from the school and we are not allowed to run lines due to environmental concerns to the wetlands. There are two classrooms that are utilized by students on a regular basis for research. The Mobile WLAN will be an excellent solution to our problem and of great value to students."

"Researchers rely on instant access to their campus network in order to communicate with peers and facilitate student instruction," said Jay Krauser, general manager, Product Management Division, NEC Unified Solutions. "As institutions of higher learning make new discoveries and invest in global research, NEC will continue to lead in developing highly-tailored, customized solutions to enable mobile users with constant connectivity."

The Mobile Classroom is expected to begin shipping from NEC Unified Solutions and certified resellers during Q1 2006.
