Motorola Unveils Four New Products

The entry-level CDMA SC3160 (800 CDMA/AMPS) phone model from Motorola will be available in the Americas in the first quarter, 1999.

The dual-mode phone weighs as little as 5.5 oz with a digital mode talk time up to 280 minutes or a digital mode standby time up to 120 hours. The SC3160 phone features a four-line alphanumeric LCD display with an additional icon line and operates with an 8 kbps, EVRC, or 13 kbps vocoder.

Motorola is also introducing the CP1250 word message pager, with an extra-wide screen that can show up to eight lines of text with up to 26 characters per line and receive and display graphics such as logos, charts, and graphs. The pager has a 117,000 total character message memory. It also delivers financial news, stock prices, headline news, weather reports, sports scores, entertainment news, horoscopes, and trivia.

The company is also offering the PF1500 word pager with confirmed message delivery. The pager has a four-line display and a dynamic 100,000 total character message memory for the management of personal messages and information services.

The PF1500 pager can be upgraded by participating carriers to allow users to respond to messages immediately, without having to find a phone. The unit is equipped with up to 13 total pre-programmed responses, including: yes, no, send more info, thank you, on my way, will call later, traffic delay, and will arrive 30 minutes.

Other preference-tested features include a built-in alarm clock, separate folders for personal messages and information services, message lock to save important information, and alert volume settings.

The PF1500 is powered by one AA battery (included), which is monitored by a battery gauge. Messages are saved even when the battery is being changed or when it is turned off.

Finally, the PageWriter 2000X two-way pager that features a 3.25 MB memory, enhanced lighted keyboard, and fast data transfer with a PC. The increase in memory also supports a new version of the FLEX protocol Operating System and data.

The pocket-sized unit features a QWERTY keyboard, which allows users to type and send complete emails, pages or faxes, or to select customized replies to incoming messages. It can be programmed to download information on demand from the Internet over the paging network. With a graphic display screen and backlit keyboard, the 2000X can be used in low light or night conditions.
