Motorola Distributes GoAhead Software With Compact PCI Platforms
As more subscribers sign up for wireless service, network operators are working hard to provide continuous coverage to its users. Any breakdown or lapse in coverage can decrease usage and, in turn, overall revenue for these operators.
To avoid down network time, wireless designers are attempting to develop high availability solutions that deliver five 9s (99.999%) reliability for the wireless market. GoAhead is one company trying to lead the charge in this market with its HighAvailability software solution.
Product specifics
As soon as a service interruption occurs, GoAhead's HighAvailability software automatically transfers operation to a standby component within the system to ensure continued operation. Then, using the product's fault management tools, users can isolate and diagnosis the problem in order to get the system operating properly in a quick timeframe.
Designed to work with CompactPCI products, the HighAvailability software solution provides dynamic configuration management, heartbeating, and checkpoint for active elements within a system, including hardware, applications, and operating system (OS) components. The software also supports a flexible range of system configurations, including active/standby central processing units (CPUs), N+1 I/O cards, and 2N I/O cards.
The GoAhead software runs on Linux, LynxOS from Lynx Real-Time Operating Systems, VxWorks from Wind River Systems, and Windows NT from Microsoft.
Agreement specifics
Under the new agreement, MCG will resell, distribute, support, and integrate GoAhead's HighAvailability on its current CompactPCI systems. The agreement also applies to subsequent products by GoAhead and MCG. GoAhead and MCG are currently collaborating to ensure that the software has been tested and integrated with current and future MCG CompactPCI platforms.
