Motorola, Cisco Set Up UK Development Center

Schaumburg, IL-based N/A and San Jose, CA-based Cisco Systems have set up the first center of excellence for their joint venture company, Invisix. The new Invisix center will work on the technologies and resources needed to drive the development of Internet-enabled wireless systems and networks.

The Invisix center will allow third-party network operators, service providers and voice/data solution developers to test their products on an all-IP platform. By doing this, Motorola and Cisco say the center will be a catalyst for the wireless Internet market and will lead the integration of leading applications into current and next-generation mobile networks.

The new center will focus on the GSM digital standard for voice and data communications, driving the integration of applications for General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) networks, and providing a test center for the introduction of third-generation (3G) network services based on an all-IP framework. Initial activity will include trials of e-commerce, location-based services, and voice browsing of Internet content. Future solution integration will include 3G technologies such as UMTS and wideband CDMA (W-CDMA).
