Measurement Uncertainty Analysis And Traceability For Phase Noise

The phase noise performance of a communication system can determine its overall quality performance. Rohde & Schwarz has developed the R&S^®FSWP Phase Noise Analyzer and VCO tester with new capabilities that will simplify phase noise testing for radar applications, and for developing and manufacturing synthesizers, OCXOs, DROs, and VCOs. This application note describes a new approach for measuring phase noise via direct down-conversion with cross correlation, and focuses on traceability using a derived primary measurement standard.
