Latest WiFi Module From Murata Enables Broadcom's WICED Wi-Fi Based Solutions

Expanded SN820x Designed for IoT Market

Murata Americas recently announced that its module group has developed the SN8000 Wi-Fi 11n module to complement the SN820x product family. A defining benefit is that it enables Broadcom's WICED Wi-Fi solution to be run on customer-selected STM32 based microcontrollers instead of a preselected platform. With that flexibility, the SN8000 offers a more cost effective solution for home automation, industrial control, Smart Energy, medical, and healthcare applications.

Evolving from the Broadcom BCM43362 chipset, the new Murata product is an industrial grade, 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi module that is designed to fit both indoor and outdoor sensor and control applications. One of the module's main features is that it integrates the Wi-Fi IC, RF front end, temperature compensated crystal (TCXO) with an on-board antenna in a FCC certified package. A footprint compatible version with an U.FL connector (SN8000UFL) is also available for use with an external antenna. Further, the SN8000 provides a wide link budget, expansive operating temperature range and an extended lifetime that further cements cost-savings.

"The demand for wireless sensing and connectivity in the microcontroller environment has certainly been a market-driver," said Mehul Udani, General Manager, Connectivity Solutions, Murata Americas. "This expansion underscores both Murata's success with the SN820X product family and our ability to leverage product development. As such, we can deliver solutions that blend advanced technology and features to reach a broader market and offer more value to our customers."

Both the SN8000 module and development kit are available through Murata's distribution network. More information can be found at www.murata-ws.com.
