Ground Tanks

Pittsburg Tank & Tower Co., Inc. engineers, fabricates, and constructs municipal water reservoirs and standpipes. The reservoirs are ground storage tanks with a shell height equal to or less than the tank diameter. Reservoirs are economical in elevations high enough to provide gravity pressure. Standpipes are ground storage tanks with a shell height greater than the diameter of the tank. Design advantages/considerations of welded-steel storage facilities:

• Elasticity of steel absorbs large amounts of energy (including earthquakes)
  
• Weight of product to be stored determines materials
  
• Wind loads and snow loads must be considered
  
• Load bearing capacity of the soil must be determined
  
• Shell height and diameter are flexible
