Ericsson's 4.5 GHz Massive MIMO AIR 3255 Wireless Device Is Officially Commercially Available In DOCOMO 5G Networks
- The deployment, scheduled to begin in December 2025, is designed to meet DOCOMO’s current and future network needs in high-traffic areas.
- Powered by Ericsson's next-generation silicon technology, the AIR 3255 will further reduce energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and device weight compared to previous wireless products.
- The new wireless device will work in conjunction with existing 3.7 GHz Massive MIMO wireless devices to improve spectrum utilization efficiency.
Ericsson's AIR 3255 Massive MIMO antenna integrated wireless device has recently been officially commercialized in the 5G network of Japanese operator NTT DOCOMO. This new wireless device covers 4.5 GHz and will help meet the current and future 5G network service needs in high-traffic, high-demand areas.
The AIR 3255 has been deployed in the live network since December 2025, helping DOCOMO deliver the high-quality network experience that users expect.
Masafumi Masuda, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Radio Access Network Design at NTT DOCOMO, stated, “Against the backdrop of continuously growing user demand, we are actively advancing the deployment of Massive MIMO radio equipment to ensure and improve network quality. The Ericsson AIR 3255 Massive MIMO antenna-integrated radio equipment helps advance DOCOMO’s Massive MIMO deployment and further enhance the customer experience. In the future, we will continue to deepen our cooperation with Ericsson to provide users with advanced network capabilities and a superior user experience.”
"Ericsson is pleased to further solidify and deepen its efficient and trusting partnership with DOCOMO by providing industry-leading, secure, and efficient Massive MIMO technology," said Shane Lam, Senior Vice President and Head of Ericsson Northeast Asia. "The AIR 3255, powered by Ericsson's silicon technology, will significantly enhance network performance to meet DOCOMO's evolving network traffic demands, while promoting environmental sustainability and reducing operating costs."
Powered by Ericsson's next-generation silicon technology, the AIR 3255 Massive MIMO wireless device reduces power consumption by 25% compared to its predecessor and decreases the CO2 footprint by 20% over the entire product lifecycle.
Weighing 13 kg, the AIR 3255 is 20% lighter than its predecessor, further reducing the difficulty of deployment in high-traffic areas. Through advanced features such as MU-MIMO (multi-user MIMO), the AIR 3255 can maintain stable throughput even under network congestion, thereby improving the user's network connectivity experience.
With the continued growth of data traffic, the Ericsson AIR 3255 will also improve spectrum utilization efficiency. This device can work in conjunction with DOCOMO's existing 3.7 GHz Massive MIMO 5G wireless equipment, making the network more flexible and reliable.
