Ericsson Receives Approval to Acquire Qualcomm Division

Stockholm, Sweden-based Ericsson has received approval to acquire San Diego, CA-based Qualcomm's CDMA wireless infrastructure division. The US Department of Justice has informed Qualcomm and Ericsson that it has finished its antitrust review and has granted the sale of the infrastructure division to Ericsson.

Today's announcement comes a little over a month after Qualcomm and Ericsson settled their intellectual property rights (IRP) dispute over third-generation wideband CDMA (W-CDMA) technology. During this announcement, Ericsson also announced that it would acquire the above mentioned infrastructure division.

By receiving this approval, Qualcomm and Ericsson hope to close the transaction they announced on March 26. According to Qualcomm, the deal should close on approximately May 24.
