Ericsson Launches Intelligent Network Platform; Announces Plans for 3G Facility

Ericsson has launched the Jambala wireless intelligent networking (WIN) platform at the PCS '98 showcase in Orlando. Specifically designed for wireless applications, Jambala is an open platform on which home location register (HLR), authentication center, and service control point applications and services will be delivered for D-AMPS/AMPS operators.

Jambala employs a Java-based application framework that gives operators total control of the service development process. Product design and implementation and be done in-house or by third party-companies.

Jambala provides interoperability with other parts of the network, such as switches and routers. In addition, this fault-tolerant system offers zero-downtime operation. It can continue to operate during hardware upgrades, software upgrades, and hardware failure.

Ericsson also announced that it will build a third-generation (3G) demonstration facility during the second quarter of 1999 at its Richardson, TX facilities. In this facility, Ericsson will demonstrate Internet and high-speed data/video applications.
