Emerson And LG Electronics Build 6G Wireless Research Testbed

Proof of concept platform will accelerate development of new wireless technologies using NI hardware and software

Emerson and multinational consumer electronics leader LG Electronics Company Limited (LGE) demonstrated a new proof-of-concept (PoC) platform for 6G research at sub-terahertz frequencies at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Communications in June.

LGE used Emerson’s third-generation NI vector signal transceiver (VST), field programmable gate array (FPGA) co-processors, and NI LabVIEW™ software to prototype a new platform capable of transmitting and receiving signals of up to 4 gigahertz bandwidth at 160 GHz frequencies. This platform can validate various PoCs for new candidate waveforms in real-time, over-the-air tests.

"In the 6G R&D phase, we have seen success in advanced full duplexing, integrated sensing and communication, and sub-terahertz transmission. Thanks to early-stage development, Emerson and LGE were able to build a cost-effective compact platform that can grow and adapt as research evolves to support new frequency bands, different bandwidths, and increased processing power.
