Microware Systems Corporational Serial Bus (USB) support for the Company's OS-9 embedded real-time operating system (RTOS).

For developers using StrongARM SA-1100, StrongARM SA-1111, PowerPC MPC823, or PowerPC MPC850 processors, the company's USB support now simplifies and accelerates USB implementation. These processors are shipped with USB built into the device; the embedded operating system adds the functional drivers needed to directly access USB on the processors, without using an additional chip.

USB is a widely used high-speed connectivity protocol for computer devices that include modems, printers, joysticks, scanners, CD-ROM drives, Ethernet adapters, mice, digital cameras, and keyboards. This embedded software supports both USB versions 1.0 and 2.0.

USB support is implemented as part of the SoftStax communications framework, which also supports IEEE 1394. SoftStax is used with the OS-9 embedded real-time operating system in devices that require fast data exchange, such as camcorders, digital televisions, set-top boxes and computer peripherals. It lets design developers choose communications technologies without having to rewrite their application for specific protocols.
