DVSI Licenses Voice Compression Technology

Digital Voice Systems, Inc. (DVSI) has licensed its advanced multi-band excitation (AMBE) voice compression software to ICO Global communications for use in the ICO mobile satellite communications system. The AMBE vocoder employs patented voice compression technology and offers compression ratios up to 64:1.

The ICO system will include 10 medium earth (MEO) satellites arranged in two orbit planes. ICO will use the system to deliver digital voice, data, fax, and messaging services to users worldwide.
