The CSM5200 Cell Site Modem (CSM) is part of an end-to-end solution which meets the IMT-2000 Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) mode for the third-generation (3G) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). The CSM5200 chipset and system software solution will support 3G services and high-data rate features and capabilities in an efficient, high-performance solution.

Supporting the WCDMA mode for the UMTS system, the solution is based on the proven, commercially available CSM family of products. The chip includes tested and tuned diagnostic tools and methods used for product design with the CSM5000 chip, and its Application Programming Interface (API) has the same structure as the CSM5000 API. The solution leverages tested CSM5000 software, including ARM-based uplink channel processing, messaging interfaces, and simulation and development environment -- all of which facilitate the development of more reliable and highly integrated WCDMA base stations.

The chip features:
• Two Megabit per second (Mbps) data throughput
• Six-sector support, with 12 uplink antenna inputs and 12 downlink antenna outputs
• Support for 16 simultaneous data or voice users
• Integrated ARM-7(TM) processor -- performs low-level physical layer tasks
• Standard 66 Megahertz (MHz) Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) interface to simplify device integration
• Device Driver software
