Cadence Acquires Bell Labs EDA Group

Cadence Design Systems has signed an agreement with Lucent Technologies. Under the pact, Cadence will acquire Lucent's Bell Labs Design Automation (BLDA) group. In addition, Cadence will engage is a three-year relationship involving continued provision of BLDA electronic design automation (EDA) services to Lucent.

BLDA's technology portfolio includes the FormalCheck model checker, CLOVER physical verification tool suite, ATTSIM analog/digital/mixed-signal simulator, and Celerity transistor-level simulator. Product roadmaps and integration plans for these BLDA products are currently in development.

Under the agreement, BLDA's staff will join Cadence's design team. Currently, BLDA employs more than 100 people.
