AutoCell Enables OEMs/ODMs To Build Their Own Wi-Fi Switch

Acton, MA -- Today, at the Wi-Fi Alliance Member Meeting in Dublin, Ireland, AutoCell Laboratories, Inc. (formerly Propagate Networks) announced JustAddAutoCell, an integrated RF product suite and Software Development Kit targeted at network equipment vendors.

"Wi-Fi switches consist of three basic elements -- security, IP mobility, and RF control functionality. Most router or LAN switch vendors already have security and policy on board, and are working on IP mobility. JustAddAutoCell provides the embedded software for a complete and feature-rich RF solution -- the crucial third leg of the stool," Gary Vacon, CEO of AutoCell, said. "This will allow any manufacturer to quickly and cost effectively build and market their own Wi-Fi switch."

"Most network router/switch vendors today are looking at a classic 'make vs. buy' decision for WLAN or Wi-Fi switches. AutoCell now provides them with a new 'fast make' option," industry analyst Frank Dzubeck, president of Communications Network Architects, said.

"Manufacturers can now buy the new generation of WLAN switch chips from Intel, Broadcom, or any other supplier; organically add some routing and IP mobility software, add AutoCell and they're done," Dzubeck added.

About JustAddAutoCell
RF control is a critical component for enterprise-class WLANs. Faced with substantial degradation in overall WLAN performance and the potential for lost or deferred sales, network manufacturers are turning to AutoCell's cognitive radio software to solve the Wi-Fi interference problem.

Designed specifically for speedy integration by network manufacturers, JustAddAutoCell includes:

  • AutoCell Enterprise v1.2 -- embedded firmware for APs and clients delivering automatic client load balancing, channel selection, transmit power control, and interference countermeasures to increase performance while requiring minimal or no manual configuration beyond the initial set up.
  • AutoCell VIEW v1.2 -- an enterprise Network Management System (NMS) that gives enterprise network administrators a real-time, graphical display of RF and equipment state, including rogue AP detection, real-time RF coverage analysis, and state-of-the-art auto-location for both APs and clients. To meet the range of platforms required, AutoCell VIEW v1.2 is portable to blades, switches, or servers, and is easily integrated with customers' NMS platforms.
  • Software Development Kits (SDKs) -- a powerful API with tools for rapid development, testing, and debugging. AutoCell's component-level building blocks can be embedded into enterprise-class APs, clients, and network router/switch/server architectures.

"Our new version of the AutoCell VIEW NMS adds real-time automatic placement of APs and clients on graphical floor plans and the best load-balancing in the business, incorporating the most important RF management functions required for large-scale enterprise WLANs," said Floyd Backes, CTO, "We've ported our system to Linux so our partners can embed it wherever they want: switch, blade, or server. Coupled with our classic embedded AutoCell firmware on APs and clients, the whole RF system is complete."
