AstroTerra Unveils Second Generation Laser Communication System

San Diego, CA-based AstroTerra Corp. has introduced its second generation of laser data communication solutions. Dubbed TerraLink 3000, the new system is designed to deliver a license-free point-to-point solution for fixed wireless applications.

TerraLink 2000 provides a line-of-site laser link between sites up to 2.5 km at data rates from 10 to 155 Mb/s. Each system includes two weatherproof units with fiber optic interface points, mounting hardware, and one year of basic warranty coverage.

The TerraLink's transmitter features a single-mode AlGaAs laser diode that offers a 785 nm laser wavelength, a 50-mm beam diameter of the transmit aperture, a 1 mrad transmit beam divergence, a 30 mW output power, and a 4 km maximum range. The laser system's receive section sports an APD detector, a 2.3 mrad field of view, a less than 10-9 bit error rate (BER), a 200-mm receive diameter, and a 100 nW maximum receive power.

The TerraLink 3000 offers a 31.25 x 16.7 x 22.68 footprint and a weight of 65 lb. Pricing information is available from AstroTerra at 619-792-8501.
