Ansoft Acquires Pacific Numerix

Electronic design automation (EDA) software developer Ansoft Corp. entered into an agreement to acquire computer-aided engineering (CAE) software tool provider Pacific Numerix Inc. (Scottsdale, AZ).

The acquisition is expected to close in two stages, subject to regulatory and other customary closing conditions—the first in April 1999 and the latter within six months thereafter. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The transaction will be accounted for as a purchase. Ansoft expects to record a one-time charge in the fourth quarter for merger related costs.
