Airspan And Sling Broadband To Demonstrate Mobile WiMAX Network

Airspan Networks Inc., a leading provider of broadband wireless access networks, announced recently that it plans to demonstrate its Mobile WiMAX solution, running on a dedicated backbone provided by Sling Broadband, a local Floridian WiMAX Operator, at the WiMAX Forum Congress Americas show December 2-3, 2009.

The demonstration will highlight the usability, mobility and flexibility of Airspan's WiMAX products based on the 802.16e mobile WiMAX platforms. In addition to the feature-rich base stations, the demonstration will incorporate a selection of customer premises equipment (CPE) including MiMAX USB, the world's only quad-band CPE device, as well as the ProST outdoor unit.

The joint demonstration is designed to underscore 802.16e-based WiMAX products for key mobility features including handover capabilities for mobile applications and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output), an intelligent antenna technology that delivers higher capacity and spectral efficiency.

All Congress attendees are invited to stop by and enjoy the high-speed Internet, game activities, and general equipment display at Airspan booth #49.

"This demonstration follows our recent announcement of FCC certification allowing operators to use Airspan equipment in the U.S. 3.65 GHz upper ‘unrestricted' 25 MHz," stated Declan Byrne, Chief Marketing Officer for Airspan. "We see the 3.65 GHz band as a key band in the U.S. market. Operators now have flexibility in deploying fixed and mobile WiMAX equipment on the lightly licensed band and we look forward to demonstrating our solution's capabilities at the show."

Operators benefit from the following features:

  • Operation over the full 50 MHz in the US 3.65 GHz frequency band
  • MIMO/Beamforming for optimized coverage and throughput
  • Airspan's Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology
  • Modular and scalable design for optimum OPEX performance
  • Full Mobility offering triple-play broadband services
  • Fractional frequency reuse for spectral efficiency

"Airspan and Sling have partnered for this demonstration to show attendees the many benefits that mobile WiMAX technology offers," commented Addiel Lopez, CEO of Sling Broadband. "As Florida neighbors, Airspan and Sling have a unique opportunity to join forces and work to spread WiMAX availability in South Florida. We look forward to a continued relationship with Airspan."

Airspan provides Fixed and Mobile WiMAX solutions operating on the 700 MHz all the way up to the 5.4/8 GHz frequency bands.
