Aironet Debuts PCI and ISA WLAN Adapters
Fairlawn, OH-based Aironet Wireless Communications Inc. is releasing a new series of wireless local area network (WLAN) adapters that connect computers with industry standard architecture (ISA) or peripheral component interconnect (PCI) slots to wireless networks. These new ISA and PCI WLAN adapters support new PC users or temporary PC workgroups within a company or small business without the delay of wiring.
Designed to comply with the IEEE 802.11 WLAN standard at 1 and 2 Mb/s, Aironet's PCI and ISA adapters communicate with the Aironet 4800 and Aironet 4500 series of direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) WLAN products and the Aironet 3500 series of frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) products.
Computers equipped with Aironet PCI or ISA WLAN adapters also can support peer-to-peer LAN configurations, which enable freestanding computers to wirelessly communicate with each other and share resources.
Aironet will also offer PCI and ISA adapters that communicate with the 11 Mb/s Aironet 4800 Turbo DS series and the Aironet 4500 series of long-range WLAN products. The new models include the Aironet PCI4800, which supports data rates of 1, 2, 5.5, and 11 Mb/s.
In addition to delivering solutions for its DSSS products, Aironet is providing PCI and ISA adapters for its Aironet 3500 series of frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) WLANs also now provides PCI and ISA adapters. The new models include the Aironet PCI3500 that supports data rates of 1 and 2 Mb/s, the Plug-n-Play Aironet PCI3500 adapter that connects PCI systems to wireless FHSS products in the 2.4 GHz band, and the Aironet ISA3500 adapter that supports 1 and 2 Mb/s and links ISA systems to other FHSS wireless clients or FHSS wireless networks up to 180,000 sq. ft.
