AirNet Initiates Deployment of Base Station Subsystem Contract for Carolina PCS I Limited Partnership

Melbourne, FL-based AirNet Communications Corp. has initiated the deployment process of a Base Station Subsystem (BSS) for Carolina PCS I Limited Partnership. AirNet has been selected as the BSS vendor for Carolina PCS's Phase I operations, which includes the Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson markets, for a Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) system.

The AirNet infrastructure includes an operations and maintenance center, base station controller, transcoder rate adapter unit, and associated cell sites. Cells in densely populated areas will be equipped with AirNet's software-defined broadband base transceiver stations while remaining cells will be configured with AirSite Backhaul Free Base Stations.

This deployment completes last October's order from Carolina PCS. Carolina PCS owns wireless licenses for nine contiguous Basic Trading Areas (BTAs) in South Carolina and adjacent areas of Georgia and North Carolina. Carolina PCS' licensed area covers about 3.5 million potential subscribers throughout the region.
