MTT—TI Enhances RF Expertise Through Acquisition of Denmark Company

Dallas-based Texas Instruments (TI) has expanded its RF expertise by purchasing ATL Research A/S of Aalborg, Denmark. Under the agreement, which was announced during the MTT-S show, TI will acquire the privately held RF developer for an undisclosed amount.

ATL is an independent research and development company specializing in radio frequency (RF) engineering, primarily for cellular communications. In particular, ATL has focused its efforts on developing third-party system solutions for second- and third-tier handset and base station designers.

The company was founded in 1996 by three engineers with experience in the Danish cellular industry. Since then, the company has grown steadily to about 30 employees.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the month. ATL will remain in Aalborg and operate as a TI subsidiary.
