Telxon to Outfit Wireless WAN/LAN Integration in British Airways Cargocentre

British Airways (Harmondsworth, UK) has selected Telxon Corp. (Akron, OH) to install a wireless task allocation system (TAS) at its New World Cargocentre located at London's Heathrow Airport. The TAS system will use more than 100 Telxon mobile computers integrated with wide area network (WAN) radios.

The Cargocentre, one of Europe's largest, will be equipped with a combination of Telxon PTC-1134 pen-based computers and PTC-870IM vehicle mounted terminals, each fitted with internal WAN radio modems to provide real-time communication across the RAM Mobile Data Network. The PTC-1134 pen-based computers will run custom applications created with the rapid application development tools provided by Telxon's subsidiary PenRight! Corp. (Fremont, CA).

The cargocentre covers 800,000 sq. ft across four floors, and has the capacity to handle up to 800,000 tons of cargo a year.
