SDR Forum Appoints Lee Pucker As CTO
Pucker's responsibilities as CTO will include:
- acting as the primary technical authority on all Forum activities;
- maintaining the Forum's mission and vision statements, workplan and roadmap;
- coordinating activities with committee chairs;
- ensuring architectural coherence, consistency and prioritization of Forum work products;
- helping to plan and prepare (as well as participating in) the Forum's annual technical conference, general meetings and workshops;
- performing liaison and outreach functions; and
- recommending appropriate technical initiatives.
Pucker's appointment by the SDR Forum resulted from an international search in the technical community. The selection process involved multiple interviews with numerous qualified candidates, as well as the review and evaluation of candidates' published papers.
"Lee Pucker is highly regarded in the industry for his comprehensive knowledge of software defined radio technologies and his practical experience developing and implementing radio communications equipment," said Allan Margulies, the SDR Forum's executive director. "We look forward to leveraging his considerable expertise in SDR and its applications."
In addition to SDR, Pucker has a broad background in high-performance digital signal processing architectures and communication system design. He is currently the chief technology officer of Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. and will continue in that capacity; he joined Spectrum in 2000 as chief engineer after serving as principle engineer for ITT Industries/Stanford Telecom. His more than 20-year career also includes engineering positions at Computer Sciences/Nichols Research and the U.S. Department of Defense. Pucker holds two degrees in electrical engineering: a bachelor of science from the University of Illinois and a master of science from Johns Hopkins University. He is a member of the IEEE Communications Society, the IEEE Standards Association and the SDR Forum board of directors.
