Filter Basics Part 5: Lumped Element and Distributed Element Filter Construction

In this new Filter Basics Series, we are taking a step back to cover some background information on how filters do what they do. Regardless of the technology behind the filter, there are several key concepts that all filters share that we will dive into throughout this series. Part 5 dives into more detail on lumped element and distributed element filter construction techniques and when each option is most appropriate to use based on your application.

Radio Architecture Matters: A Review Of RF Sampling Vs. Zero-IF

The growing demand for wireless services not only challenges our limited spectral resources, it also challenges the radio designer to select the correct radio architecture. This article will examine two common radio architectures and learn how each solves the unique challenge of growing co-location issues.

Ray Tracing Simulation & Propagation Methods

Ray-tracing methods use discrete rays to represent advancing wavefronts as they propagate from a transmitter through a scene. Rays interact with geometry in the scene through reflections, diffractions, and transmissions. Rays that reach a receiver represent the paths that waves may travel from the transmitter to the receiver. The electric field, received power, and other electromagnetic quantities can be calculated through the superposition of the contributions from all of the propagating waves that reach that receiver point. The two dominant ray-tracing methods are Shooting-and-Bouncing Rays and Image Theory. Remcom’s software combines these two methods to leverage the advantages of each.
