What Really Matters? ESD Specifications For Smartphone Antenna Tuners

Antenna tuners in smartphones, like other electronic components, must be able to withstand electrostatic discharge (ESD) at every stage from device manufacturing and smartphone assembly to consumer use. However, confusion exists about the level of ESD protection required at each stage.

RF Technology For The 5G Millimeter Wave Radio

As the arrival of 5G gets ever closer, it continues to generate challenges for designers. When determining the best technology solution for millimeter wave radio applications, it is beneficial to consider all aspects of the signal chain, as well as the various advantages of different IC processes.

Magnetic Field Testing

The strength of the magnetic component of the electromagnetic field is typically measured with loop antennas. The design of loops varies with the application and frequency range. In most cases, the loops are electrostatically shielded by enclosing the wire turns inside a tubular conducting shield, which is broken at the some point around the periphery to prevent the shield acting as a shorting turn.
