The Enhydra 3.5 is an application server capable of supporting major wireless protocols and delivering applications to the broadest range of wireless and wired devices. The application server includes smart phone emulators from mobile phone manufacturers, Nokia, Motorola and Pixo, as well as development tools from Borland, Sun and RadView to give developers a complete suite of tools to quickly build and easily manage wired and wireless applications.

The application server and development platform delivers applications to wired and wireless devices including mobile phones, PDAs, handheld computers, desktops, and laptops. To ensure that independent software vendors (ISVs), systems integrators (Sis), and corporate IT departments have the necessary technologies to meet the demands of wireless development, and to address the lack of global standards, the server supports the leading presentation protocols, including HTML, WML, cHTML, XHTML, VoiceXML and the new J2ME/MIDp protocols for the emerging Java phones.

The new version leverages Enhydra XMLC to guarantee that developers are not required to write a separate code base for each targeted device. This technology effectively separates business logic from presentation design, enabling a "one-to-many" approach that decreases time to market and improves application manageability.

The version includes Nokia's 7110 emulator and WAP gateway as well as Pixo's cHTML emulators for developing i-mode applications. Additionally, comprehensive documentation and source code for sample applications give developers a solid foundation from which to begin building and deploying wireless applications. AirSent, the sample field dispatch and delivery application included with the product, provides developers with a sound model for building other time-sensitive, mobile applications. The AirSent application can deliver data to a wide variety of devices supporting HTML, WML, J2ME/MIDp, and cHTML including phones using WAP, I-Mode and J2ME.
