PowerSmart Introduces Smart Battery Modules

Shelton, CT-based PowerSmart Inc. has unveiled a new line of programmable fuel gauge modules designed to enhance the reliability and runtime of smart lithium-ion (Li-ion) and nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery packs. The new PS3000 family of modules is fully SBS compliant and contains all SBS functionality on a single PCB for integration into battery packs containing 2-to-4 Li-ion cells or 6-to-10 NiMH cells.

The new modules combine PowerSmart's P3 smart battery IC, a serial EEPROM, and all necessary supporting components for a turnkey smart battery solution. The PS3000 performs precise measurements of discharge and charge current, voltage, and temperature. It also accurately calculates remaining capacity to within 1%. Critical information about the battery's state of charge and health are communicated to the host device via an SMBus/I2C interface.

PowerSmart's fuel gauge modules are supplied with or without a switch and light-emitting-diode (LED) display and 5-pin, self-cleaning, advanced battery connector. Fuel gauge circuits with integrated safety electronics are also available for use in Li-ion batteries.

PowerSmart's PS3000 family of fuel gauge modules are available now with pricing at under $10 in OEM quantities.
