Datalogic, Symbol Partner to Deliver Bar Code Scanning and Wireless LAN Solutions

Symbol Technologies Inc. (Holtsville, NY) is uniting with Datalogic S.p.A. (Bologna, Italy), a European bar code data capture and mobile computing company. Datalogic will integrate Symbol's laser scan engine and wireless local area network (LAN) technology into its products for European markets. In addition, Datalogic will assume rights to manufacture Symbol's laser scanning engines and Spectrum24 radio cards.

The alliance calls for Symbol to remarket Datalogic's CCD technology and products for reading PDF417 two-dimensional symbology, as well as one-dimensional bar codes. Revenues for Datalogic and Symbol through the course of the three-year contract are expected to exceed $7 million and $12 million, respectively.
