Taiwanese ODM Selects Skyworks GSM/GPRS Solution For Wireless Handsets
Arima to launch new handsets this month
Woburn, MA -- Skyworks Solutions, Inc. today announced that Arima Communications has selected Skyworks' highly integrated GSM/GPRS cellular system solution as the platform for a number of new wireless handsets that will launch this month in China. Arima, based in Taiwan, is an original development manufacturer (ODM) of cellular phones and wireless data modules.
"Working with Skyworks, rather than multiple RF and baseband vendors, has enabled us to deliver a desirable new line of handsets in record time," said Owen Chen, executive VP at Arima Communications. "We expect to see these new phones quickly gain share within the rapidly growing and competitive Chinese market."
Arima utilizes Skyworks' compact, power-efficient GSM/GPRS cellular system solution to provide all of the necessary hardware and software functionality for handset operation with advanced data and multimedia features. The new handsets will feature GPRS data support, color LCD displays, a built-in digital camera, 40-level polyphonic ring tone melodies, predictive text input, Enhanced and Multimedia Messaging Services (EMS/MMS) software, a WAP browser and advanced gaming.
"We are pleased to take our relationship with Arima to the next level. First as a supplier of power amplifier modules and RF subsystems, to today providing the complete handset solution," said Liam K. Griffin, VP of sales and marketing at Skyworks. "We look forward to collaborating with Arima on next generation designs as they expand within China and beyond."
