Surface-Mount Silicon Schottky Diodes

Skyworks Solutions, Inc. has developed a series of high performance packaged RF diodes in hermetic and ultra-miniature 0201 wafer scale configurations to complement their extensive line of plastic packaged diodes and diode chips. These diodes will be included in an upcoming Skyworks' Semiconductor Discretes catalog and are backed by decades of manufacturing experience and industry leadership.

Skyworks' new packaged diodes are suitable for use in waveguide, coaxial and SMT micro-strip configurations for high-reliability military and industrial applications beyond 26 GHz. These products include silicon varactors, PIN and limiter diodes, and both silicon and GaAs Schottky designs. The new catalog is intended to enable design engineers to readily understand the specifications for Skyworks' semiconductor products, and to easily select appropriate part numbers for their new and existing designs.

Skyworks' new discrete diode products include the introduction of the industry's smallest and lowest profile packaged silicon RF Schottky diodes in a 0201 surface mount technology (SMT) footprint. The SMS7621-096 is a low barrier 0201 silicon RF Schottky diode that is well suited for a variety of applications including high sensitivity RF power detection, video sampling circuits, and low conversion loss balanced mixers. The SMS7630-093 is a very low barrier zero bias 0201 silicon RF Schottky diode that is ideal for ultra-sensitive video detectors and sampling applications. Very low package parasitic impedance (CP < 0.05 pF, LS < 0.2 nH), forward voltage, and junction capacitance makes both devices well suited for RF and microwave signal detection applications beyond 26 GHz, whereas traditional plastic packaging is typically only specified up to 10 GHz.

These products complement the multiple drive level packaged beam lead, chips and flip-chip GaAs diodes that Skyworks now offers for demanding microwave point to point radio, radar, embedded WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n modules, and other wireless microwave applications from L to Ka band. Skyworks' new diode offerings operate over a wide temperature range of -65 to +150 degrees Celsius and as such are well suited for both military and commercial applications.
