Skyworks Solution's CLA series of silicon PIN limiter diodes provide passive receiver protection over a broad range of input power levels, and wide operating frequency range of 100 MHz to well beyond 30 GHz. This series of RF diodes utilizes Skyworks' well-established silicon semiconductor technology to provide consistent limiting threshold levels and recovery time, while maintaining low in-circuit insertion loss.

The CLA series consists of eight individual limiter diode designs of different intrinsic (I) region thicknesses and breakdown voltages, designed to accommodate multistage limiter applications. The mesa constructed, thin I region, low capacitance CLA4601, CLA4602, CLA4604 and CLA4605 diodes are designed for low-power limiting and cleanup applications. The CLA4603 and CLA4606 thru CLA4608 are planar designs optimized for high-power and mid-range limiter applications.

Skyworks' CLA family of limiter diodes are now available as both bondable chips, and in hermetic ceramic packaging, well suited for high frequency and high reliability applications. Key features of the CLA series include low insertion loss (0.1 dB at 10 GHz), recovery time as fast as 5 ns, input power handling up to 15W CW and +66 dBm pulsed. These diodes can be easily configured to create a multistage limiter to reduce a 1 kW input signal to 20 mW at the receiver front end while allowing the receiver to function normally when such large signals are not present.

These products add to the broad portfolio of PIN, varactor and Schottky diodes that Skyworks now offers for RF and microwave applications. These Skyworks diode offerings operate over a wide temperature range of -65 to +150 degrees Celsius and are lead (Pb)-free, RoHS-compliant, and Skyworks GreenTM products. These qualities make the diodes well suited for both commercial and military applications.
